10 minute card using Mr Huey inks.

while packing away some supplies this morning, and waiting for some Mr Huey inks to dry on another project...this 10 minute card came about.i love projects like that - spur of the moment things.
to purchase these and other great products distributed by The Wholesaler ask your nearest scrapbook store or visit www.thewholesaler.biz

to create the background i used 3 different colours of Mr Huey inks mister over each other. I started with the Prima Gears mask and first mister aqua, then added some silver and last a layer of white Mr Huey - love the end result.
the beautiful DoCrafts Chronology embellishments as really quick and easy to add dimension to any projects - the elements acts as focal points in a couple of seconds
and some quick die-cut toppers matted onto cardstock and a postage stamp element cut from the patterned paper finished off the card.
and yet another card finished and ready to be posted....
anyone who says they do not have time to be creative is not being honest with themselves.
hope you have a wonderful day filled with inks and papers.

new sketch layout at scrapbook challenges.

it's Monday which means it's time for another sketch over at scrapbook challenges.i loved working with this sketch - so many possibilities. there's no 'official' double page version, but because i am more comfortable scrapping on double pages....that's what i did. the colour inspiration came from these gorgeous little pink and green leaves i found from a new supplier (yeah) awesome stuff. so here's what the original sketch looks like, and remember to head on over to www.scrapbookchallenges.com to see what the design team has done

and here's my layout...
i used a combination of old and new patterned papers. some chipboard elements and some paint and inks for an artistic touch. i also added some old book paper for a change - missed using it.
really old Basic Grey rub-ons - i simply cut the strip in half to use it in more than one spot on my layout, love being frugal
and lots of sewing done. i used this really cool template i have - made for calligraphy - to punch holes in my layout and then sued gold thread to sew this beautiful diamond pattern. i love the delicate and beautiful look - worth all the work!
hope you are having a wonderfully creative week so far.

i *heart* docrafts chronology.

It’s been a while since we have had some beautiful boy and guy related products on the market. I am not talking the using ahhh cute things for the little dudes – I am talking big boy stuff! I am thrilled to see this new release by DoCrafts. They have nailed it down to what we want – bold, masculine, funky but most of all with some colour. As much as I love the beautiful shades of brown (uh) there’s only so much of dull any crafter can take. So without wasting any time….here’s what I created using the beautiful Chronology range of papers and embellishments.
I wanted to showcase as many of the products available in the range so I used the beautiful thick patterned papers adhered to cardstock to form my tag background – this was my starting point for all of the tags.
Absolutely Marvellously Tag For my tag background I used the striking rusty clock patterned paper. The focal point for this tag is the blue die-cut topper. I adhered the topper to the bottom edge of the tag after inking the edges to highlight them. I combined the die-cut gears with some metal gears for dimension to this tag. A couple of coloured buttons finished off the look. What I really like about the die-cuts is the quality of the dies, but also that you can now create your own gears in a variety of materials like vellum, cardstock, tissue paper, patterned paper, handmade paper, photos and even thin chipboard. The possibilities are endless.
new metals....
Birthday Greetings Tag I used the beautiful green script paper to create my tag. I adhered the paper to plain cardstock to firm it up before embossing it using the Clocks embossing folder. I love how the Tri-boss folders give a deep impression for crisp clear images. To highlight the clock design of the embossing folder I used a brown ink and sponge daubers to lightly ink the edges of the embossed paper, and afterwards gave it a light mist with the AC Mr Huey Shine for some sparkle. The effect is simply gorgeous! To add decorative elements I used a sentiment from the die-cut topper sheet and brown cardstock to cut the cogs, cut a Mason jar image from the patterned paper and used a sentiment from the die-cut toppers. The cogs and gears were adhered using the funky brass screw like brads – fast, convenient and manly.
aahhhh die-cuts galore
deep impressions by the tri-boss embossing folders
Looking Glass Tag This must be my new favourite stamp image ever (ok for now)! I love the look and versatility of this stamp; it can be used for so many themes and projects. For this tag I used the patterned paper with the bicycles on it. I then layered a piece of orange clocks, orange cardstock and the stamped image. I used a dye ink to add some colour to the edges of my stamped image, and then used the gold Mr Huey ink and painted the centers of the clocks using a bit of water and a small paint brush. I stamped the image in Versafine ink which allows me paint over it. Depending on the type of paper you stamped on the inks used will give a different finished look as they react differently depending on the cotton and fiber content of the papers. I stamped the image a second time and used a punch to punch some clocks and raised those using pop dots. A couple of buttons was used to add some dimension.
love this stamp image....
These tags are so versatile – they can be used as gift tags attached to birthday gifts, a simple note written on the back for a loved one, used as a book mark in a diary – it can be whatever you want it to be. This is a beautiful range for loads of potential, and I intend on making use of it every chance I get. Go on; spoil the man in your life with a funky Chronology inspired craft project.

scrap africa postage stamp challenge.

the new challenge is up over at scrap Africa. i have had a long *love* affair with old postage stamps, as well as postage rubber stamps. so when it came time for me to host a challenges, this was a no brainer! I have a glass container filled with these recycled babies...and am ashamed to say i am quite stingy with them. i always think of the off chance of using a stamp that is quite valuable on a layout just to find out i could have sold it for lots of moolah. oh well....
for this layout i used some old photos and papers from my scrap box. a real mixture of stuff, just the way i like it.
pretty crate chipboard, punched flowers and buttons
i adhered the stamps to a strip of cardstock and then trimmed it into the chevron shape for my layout
i added some sewing along the edges
i love how this layout came together - a bit different for me in so many ways, and yet so true to my style. i so very much love my scrapbooking! hope you will play along with us so head on over to scrap Africa to see what the rest of team came up with. here's hoping you have a wonderful week.

Free Valentine dimensional Booklet card from The Wholesaler.

February is the month we celebrate LOVE. We should celebrate it every day in little gestures – and what better way to celebrate your loved ones than with a handmade card or love letter. We are celebrating a vintage Valentine with the cool Grungy look thrown in for interest – all brought to us through a local range of paper. I love the grungy design and look of this range of papers. The beautiful swirls, the soft grey hues and the abundance of hearts is a real winning combination. This range is perfect for beautiful layouts celebrating love and for every day cards with a special twist. Vintage Love cards
To add a bit of vintage to the funky Grunge Love papers I printed some vintage postcards onto mat cardstock and used them as the focal point for my cards. The background paper offers a neutral backdrop for the vintage elements and at the same time perfectly complements the images – this shows you how versatile this paper range really is.
How to implement colour into a design?
I used the mostly grey coloured papers in the range for the backgrounds. I knew I wanted to add some red so I first matted them onto red cardstock which immediately lifted the grey a bit. I then chose vintage images with the same hue of red as my cardstock as well as some grey, green and pink in them. To pull everything together I added some flowers with pink and green in them, and a hand dyed ribbon incorporating all the different colours. And that’s how you can throw things together that initially doesn’t seem to work at all. Take a risk and try this colour combination for yourself using the stunning Leah Donna range of papers.
beautiful elegant swirls...
beautiful shades of grey (no not 50) rust, red, creams and soft greens

Hand coloured seam binding ribbon to perfectly match my colour scheme - there's nothing better than doing this and getting your fingers dirty...

A little extra… Cover wooden washing pegs in strips of the Leah Donna Grunge Love papers to hold a love letter and chocolate together for your love ones this Valentine’s day.
I designed a little dimensional heart shaped booklet type card especially for you, our loyal Wholesaler customers. The easy to use template lets you turn and ordinary heart shape into a dimensional card with loads of space inside to write a special love letter. Simply print out the template onto the lovely Leah Donna Grunge Love range of papers and cut out, score a few lines and decorate to your heart’s content. We hope you like this little project, and we would love to see what you have done with yours.

basic grey's dressed to impress.

I have always loved Basic Grey papers.I remember back in the day when they launched their grungy style papers with the imperfections - they were rebels in so many ways, and scrapbookers had to get used to this new style of paper design. But they soon became a firm favourite of the scrapbooking rebels amongst us (yip that's me). and even today i love their unique design approach. this layout is a firm favourite at this stage - it's classic and simple with some interesting bits - just the way i like it!

capturing my tear.

yesterday was a good day...we spent 5 hours on top of the Magalies Mountains, chatting, admiring the view, taking photos and just chilling. no answering phones, hardly any technology time, just being together, being active and out in the very very hot weather and finding peace in the midst of this hectic. it was a good day. we saw so much of God's hand in everything.
we had spotted some moisture on these purple flowers, but it was only once i got home and viewed the photos on screen - that i saw the little water drop underneath the flower - just hanging there. it was as if God was letting me capture my own teardrop and showing it back to me - letting me know that it will be all OK. sadness in the midst of beauty is there for a reason and a season. tomorrow is a new day (well actually today was a new day)
and then we saw this little fella...he was the funniest thing ever! he just stared at us, even posing and turning a couple of times so i could get him from all angles.
we saw loads of different flowers and interesting plants. so amazing in every little detail
i hope you had an awesome day. ours was filled with blessings and and everlasting joy.
here's to a creative week - inside or out. remember creativity doesn't always mean making something. it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful!

alcohol ink tag technique class.

a new year means new tag technique classes at Scrapbook Den. February is all about alcohol inks and we are going to get "high" on techniques and making beautiful tags. and some sneak peeks for you...

loads of texture and colour....
incorporating alcohol inks, distress inks and stamping together to mention a few
there are still a few spots left in the second class so
give Jeanette a call on (011) 453-2724 / 082 552 4332

scrapbook studio event sneak peek 2.

things are getting hectic around here with the time drawing nearer for the BIG scrapbook studio event in February. layouts are done, kits are being packed 1500km from where i am, notes are being printed, and arrangements finalized. it's a huge thing organizing and collating everything - getting everyone to do what they have to in time. so it's time for another sneak peek - this time a Kaisercraft layout with some fun techniques on it. so hope you've booked your seat for it.....

it's been raining through the night here. i love it. i could so easily live in the UK and never ever see the sun again. i don't like the heat and i don't like Africa as much either.so i am loving this weather. wishing you a creative day....i am clearing out the store room. have sorted through some cupboard in the house and managed to get one sorted and cleared of empty boxes and useless stuff. so i am making a pile of give-away, donate, purge, workers and dustbin.
i am also trying to figure out what to do with 3000 plus sheets of scrapbooking papers, 2 crates of chipboard stuff, loads of magazines, 40 crates of imported handmade chinese papers, other stuff from my childhood, scrapbook frames in crates, more magazines and more stuff? the thing is i would give it all away probably to find out i need some of it tomorrow .... and on the other hand i want to give it all away and just live (an ordinary) life...or maybe....
well life is confusing and i need to maybe grow up and take things into my own hands for a change. the thing is there are alwyas those who just can't leave things alone and they have to interfere and complicate things. what's with that. people thinking they can play God just to find out they themselves are useless individuals....
here's hoping for peace, hearing God's voice clearly today, problem solving, an outcome to my situation and making wise decisions regarding people.
oh well....hope you are having a good week of purging and cleaning out for 2013 to be a blank slate.

sketch 13 layout at scrap africa.

wow, can you believe day 2 of a new year already. Well, time to get back into the groove of things and we have a new sketch up over at Scrap Africa.
i loved working with this sketch and had some time to dig out a couple of older family photos to finally get scrapped. oh wait, that's only because my ink is running low and our local shop will only get stock next week...bummer, but worth it in the end. to get a look at the sketch and what the other design team members have done, hop on over here and play along with us. there's also some fabulous prizes up for grabs. and here's my layout....

i combined some favourite things together like, crate paper, basic grey chipboard elements, kaisercraft printed flowers etc.....simply loved all the bright colours.
clusters of pearls are grouped in the centers of the flowers to add some dimension - loved this effect
wishing you a creative week and start to 2013. thanks for stopping by and remember there's some awesome goodies from Fabscraps up for grabs.
